SECURICO’S SUCCESS IN ITS PEOPLE

“Treat your people well and they will pleasantly surprise you” says Divine Ndhlukula Managing Director of DDNS Security Operations (Pvt) Ltd incorporating SECURICO, MULTI-LINK and Canine Dog Services. “We go to great lengths to ensure our operatives are motivated.v

One such person is 30 year old Tafirenyika Hove. I never wanted to be a Security Guard. I arrived in Harare from Mberengwa in 2000 and stayed with my uncle Aaron Ndhlovu who was and still is employed by SECURICO. He persuaded me to go to SECURICO Head Office located at National Sports Stadium, then to seek for employment. Reluctantly, I went but could not make the grade as I was only 20 years old since the minimum age requirement was 25. The Managing Director Mrs Ndhlukula came at the recruitment parade and just asked why I was not recruited. She then told the Training Officer to take me for a trial as I was tall and looked mature. We began with a run around the National Sports Stadium followed by a written test. I passed both well and it was the beginning of a career that I have not looked back since.

Hove worked his way up and is currently a Security Officer responsible for Industrial contacts. “I was given an opportunity and the chance to be something I never dreamt I would be, but now I am proud of what I have accomplished, but also know that it is thanks to the way I was encouraged by SECURICO to develop and empower myself”. He believes anyone at SECURICO who shows dedication, ambition and is willing to work hard can achieve the same as he did.

“I was fortunate that at the time I joined, our Managing Director Mrs Ndhlukula was very much involved in the training of all operatives as she was personally taking classes herself on some of the subjects we learnt.” Hove added.

According to Mark Kupfuwa the Human Resources Head, the 3 000 strong displined and motivated operatives is one of the contributing factors to the company’s success due to operatives loyal and dedicated approach to customers.

“Our approach to our operatives is different than most. It is not easy to become a SECURICO operative as we have a very stringent and induction procedures, but once employed, there are various initiatives to ensure a positive work environment where mutual respect is one of them. “Various bonus schemes monthly, quarterly and annual competitions are run. The competitive environment is a manifestation of our leader who has inspired in us a spirit of competitiveness to excel”

“An important factor to us is that our operatives achieve their goals. We have a promotion from within policy which Hove is a beneficiary of as he underwent our 18 months development programme which identifies potential Managers who are taken through the ropes” Kupfuwa added.

“Through our high service levels and motivated operatives, we have grown the business in mainly the top end segment of the market” concluded Divine Ndhlukula.
